Things I’ve made to put my dent in the World Wide Web

I’ve worked on numerous small and large projects, of which not all have stood the test of time. Below is a collection of achievements, but also of memories.

  • The First Official Bitcoin Malaysia Conference

This simple website has a special meaning to me. I am proud that my company, Realode, was part of Malaysia’s first Bitcoin conference, organised by Bitcoin Malaysia, the central crypto community of the country since 2012. The main challenge was to keep up with the frequency of content updates and make sure that the website was running uninterruptedly throughout the ticket sales period, and especially during the conference.

  • Data protection and compliance made easy

Legal Living Hub is a website by the data protection and digital law expert Olga Eichmann, who is growing an informational hub with the goal of making data protection and implementation and compliance easy. We, Realode, helped her design her brand, guidelines for social media content creation, and made a multilingual website, so she could launch her project smoothly and present it on different social media platforms.

  • National Internet Infrastructure Provider

Thailand IX is an informative website that shows the recent news of the company branch, presents the core information for their partners and clients, and features real-time charts of their system status. Realode built the first version of the website in 2020, and in 2024, we conducted a redesign in relation to the company’s rebranding, following the merge of CAT Telecom and TOT PCL. We also added several features, like dark mode, to improve and elevate the user experience. For a well-established and industry-leading company in the internet industry, security is of utmost importance, which is why, from the beginning, we worked closely with the tech team of Thailand IX to ensure an impeccable security and performance-focused setup for the website. This project was led by Ecomidea.

  • Musical Equipment Web Shop

Blackpanthersystem is an international brand that produces modular keyboard stands. Their shop allows customers to configure the desired products with multiple variables (sizes, colours, and other variations). I programmed several customisations and set up the website in a way that supports multiple languages, currencies, units (inches and pounds for the US market, cm and kg for the rest of the world) and allows flexible shipping prices and methods.

  • Survey Website

Die Dom Challenge is a survey website that I programmed for a business conference by Allert & Co. GmbH. This project introduces a unique valuation method by the Allert & Co. in a gamified way that compares this method to some of the more common ones, such as EV or EBIDTA. TonusXpert is an education platform by Tonus SportsClub, which aims to give its users the knowledge of a personal coach online. It started as the result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the respective restrictions for the offline business. To elevate user experience, I programmed an integration between the Garmin Health API and WordPress, adding synchronization and data storage features to calculator forms that the platform members use to evaluate their results. Besides that, I programmed a Progressive Web App integration that sends users daily and weekly reminders according to their settings. This project is a collaboration between Storytellerin Content Creation and Realode.

It has such features as individual food menus with shared core and custom specials for single branches, table booking system integration, and an integrated Covid-19 registration system compliant with GDPR and the local law. It also features an Instagram-like story that introduces a visitor to the restaurant’s story and the people who are behind it.

  • Travel Blog Redesign

Zane Eniņa is a Latvian travel blogger who has roamed the world since 1977. Her blog has existed since 2012, and in 2017 she decided that it was time to bring it to the next level. We redesigned the website and developed new features. For example, we made an interactive world map for her readers to follow her trips easier. We also made an organized navigation system to browse through the places that she traveled to more comfortably. Besides the redesign, we created a localizable logo and a new color scheme. Another critical step was the transfer of the website from WordPress.com to a new server, during which we had to make sure that all the content and comments from the five years would stay intact.

  • Faculty Info App

This was another personal project that consists of an Android app and a web UI for management. The app was a database of professors and staff, spread among several sub-faculties. Each of those sub-faculties had an own website, which made it difficult to find the right information fast. So, the app made it simple to find a professor, his contacts and hours. There was also an interactive map using Google Maps API. The app supported offline usability, refreshing the database when having an internet connection either automatically or manually. The web UI was used by the student committee to manage the database.

  • Homepage For a Student Residence in Paris

Here is another personal project that I made with a friend of mine, when we both were living in this student residence in Paris. The website was multi-lingual, asynchronous, and had a newsfeed, photo and video gallery, and a closed community for the residents. Unfortunately, it had to be discontinued, since it wasn’t based on any CMS, and thus was to difficult to maintain given the fast-paced evolution in the web ecosystem.

  • Minimalistic Travel Blog

Here is a multi-language, minimalistic in both design and codebase, dynamic (asynchronous) blog. It was a personal project that I made when travelled to China, the first Asian country in my life, in 2010. I didn’t know much of what to expect except the facts that Facebook and Google services were either blocked or barely accessible, so it inspired my idea of creating a personal travel blog. The website was based mostly on JavaScript and used the asynchronous data exchange (AJAX), which was pretty innovative back then. It is also the very first project that I made for big (not cellphone or smartphone) screens.

  • Mobile Browser MMORPG

Here is one of the first online mobile games on the Russian web. • ProTraf – Ads Exchange Platform

This project features turnkey development from scratch, monitoring and continuous algorithm optimization. It was a traffic selling engine (Ads Exchange), a common advertisement instrument of that time. Users would sign up, obtain a hyperlink or banner code and get paid for each click their website visitor would make. The website offered user support in form of a ticket system, statistics page with different filters, a small board for users to have a place for discussions and an automated monitoring engine that was running filtering algorithms to determine fake clicks and simplify the final human check.

  • WAPFTP – Mobile FTP File Manager

My first big project was this online file manager designed for mobile phones in 2005. Even though it’s hard to imagine how one could access the internet, not to mention work with files or text from a small screen, it was considered innovative. This file manager was used by the continuously rising number of mobile users on the Russian speaking web who were interested not only in surfing but also creating mobile sites, yet didn’t have a personal computer. It has been hosted as a stand-alone service but also installed by some hosting providers of that time. The file manager had a full functionality to edit and manage files: compressing multiple files into an archive (ZIP or TAR), extracting archives, editing text files with different layouts for simple text and a special highlighted layout for HTML and CSS, even modifying ID tags of MP3 files.
